Solving Siloed Design and Development Teams
A fast-growing SaaS company approached us with a significant challenge: their design and development teams were operating in silos. This disconnect led to inefficiencies, conflicting priorities, and inconsistent user experiences across their product line. Each team used separate tools, processes, and communication channels, resulting in a lack of collaboration. The development team frequently had to rework designs that weren’t technically feasible, while the design team struggled to keep up with changes made during development.
Design System
The development of a design system was introduced to address inconsistencies in product design and enhance efficiency, consistency, and brand trust. The goal was to streamline design processes, improve user experience, and reduce time-to-market.
The Design System evolved over two years, moving from the nascent stage to the basic stage in the first year, and advancing to the integrated stage by the second year.
Discoverability Issues
We solved a major discoverability problem for a large, feature-rich Learning Management System (LMS) with numerous hidden, profit-driving features.
UX Research: Manager Direct Reports Page Usability Evaluation
We conducted a usability study to evaluate the overall user experience of the Manager Direct Reports Page and its subpages. The goal was to understand how managers use this feature to track progress, view reports, and send reminders, as well as to identify areas for improvement and potential new features based on user needs.
Mobile App Login Flow
Users were dropping off the client’s mobile app due to a confusing login flow, especially around entering the correct domain name. We streamlined the process by simplifying domain input, adding helpful guidance like tooltips and a “Look Up My Site” feature, and introducing Single Sign-On (SSO) and Facial Recognition options. This redesign significantly improved user retention and satisfaction, resulting in fewer support tickets and more positive app store reviews.
Improving Course Discoverability: Redesign of the Learner Homepage
We addressed learners’ struggles in finding assigned and overdue courses by redesigning the learner homepage. By prioritizing critical courses, introducing an intuitive horizontal carousel, and simplifying course cards, we enhanced usability and engagement. The new design led to easier navigation, higher course completion rates, and reduced support requests.
Tackling the UX Backlog/Debt
We tackled a massive UX backlog by focusing on high-impact, low-effort issues. Through systematic prioritization, we improved the user experience significantly and reduced complaints efficiently.
Accessibility Plan
The purpose of this accessibility plan is to ensure that all individuals, regardless of ability, can access and use your products and services with ease. Your goal is to create an inclusive environment that fosters equity and removes barriers to participation for people with disabilities. This accessibility plan applies to all your products and services.
Establishing a Hybrid UX Team Structure for Enhanced Collaboration
We assisted a client in transitioning from a decentralized UX team with only 1–2 designers to a hybrid structure. By embedding UX designers into Scrum teams and establishing centralized UX leadership, we improved collaboration, reduced duplicated efforts, and increased the organization’s overall UX maturity. This restructuring led to more efficient resource allocation, better product knowledge among designers, and a stronger, more integrated UX presence across all product teams.
Increasing Task Completion with Progress Trackers in Bulk Import Feature
We introduced progress trackers and enhanced guidance in a multi-step bulk import and assignment process. By providing clear progress indicators, implementing input validation, and improving instructions and error messaging, we significantly increased task completion rates, reduced errors, and boosted user trust and satisfaction. This success led to the adoption of progress trackers in other multi-step processes across the platform.
Integrating UX into Agile for Improved Product Development
This highlights the challenges of balancing agile processes with user experience design and provides solutions such as embedding UX into agile workflows, using dual-track design, and leveraging user story mapping. By aligning UX efforts with development backlogs and utilizing design sprints, teams improved collaboration, reduced risk, and enhanced the overall product experience, ensuring user needs are met throughout the development cycle.
